"Do you remember when we went around, from pub to pound shop through Kentish Town?"

SHOES: TOMS (VIA ASOS), SKIRT: MISS SELFRIDGE, BELT: N/A & TOP: STELLA MCCARTNEY (VIA TKMAXX FOR RED NOSE DAY)

Nothing screams summer quite like an open air concert. And it being National Picnic Week last week (no, I didn't realise either until it turned up in the Metro), my family and I attended the Hampton Court Palace Festival, complete with picnic basket and tartan rug to see Imelda May perform.

WHAT DID I WEAR?
My major stress for this concert was that I had to come straight from school, change in the back of the car (don't worry, we have tinted windows so I didn't flash the whole of Fulham) and look vaguely acceptable. I decided to embrace dressing as the 'Fosters' advert informs us we should do: smart/casual (seeing as I had no clue and it seemed a reasonable source of information). Therefore I flung this together at about 11pm the night before and did my make-up in the rear view mirror of the car. I thought it was a reasonable attempt at dressing myself. Unfortunately (and as my Dad of all people pointed out) I didn't have time to do my hair. I do occasionally do my hair 40's style, with victory rolls and a little quiffy bit. Seeing as I wasn't going to school like that and there was nowhere to plug curlers in in the car (as well as not wanting to kill everyone off with the hairspray) so you'll just have to settle. But saying that, I don't think you guys have seen my new 'do so, here you are...

IS IT LIKE GLASTONBURY, AND WHAT'S WITH THE PICNIC?
No, Hampton Court Palace Festival is probably as far as you could get from Glastonbury. Situated in the grounds of the palace, you can take a seat on the lawn from 5pm, either bringing your own picnic tea with you or you can order a Jamie Oliver Picnic Hamper prior to the occasion (but at £75 they're a bit steep). An act then starts at 9pm. There is one act playing on each evening and ticket prices depending on who is playing. It's more old style stuff like Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Cliff Richard but also Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

IMELDA MAY? NEVER HEARD OF HER...
Imelda May is an Irish singer and songwriter specialising in rockabilly and jazz music. She's a favourite of Jools Holland having appeared on his New Years Hootenanny in 2011. Her first album 'Mayhem' was gold certified and went triple platinum. However, she took 2012 out of the music industry to write her second album and have a baby daughter. The Hampton Court Palace Festival was her first performance in over a year where she preformed tracks new and old and got the whole crowd up and dancing.
